Current projects


At the May 2017 Annual Town Meeting, $950,000 was appropriated to the use of the Trust for the purpose of creating affordable homeownership units. Since then, the Trust identified a piece of Town-owned property at the corner of Route 20 and Wellesley Street. 

The Trust has contract with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Boston to build six cohesive and attractive homes that reflect the character of the neighborhood and enable six well-qualified families to own a home in Weston. These units will be permitted under the Local Initiative Program (LIP) of Chapter 40 B.

The Elderly Housing Committee is investigating the possibility of utilizing the old Sunrise Assisted Living facility as elderly affordable housing, The tentative plan is that this will be a public-private venture with a master lease to the Town. The apartments would be affordable elderly units and managed by Brook School Apartments (BSA).

The law requires that an MBTA community shall have at least one zoning district of reasonable size in which multi-family housing is permitted as of right, and that meets other criteria set forth in the statute. Failure to comply with the law results in a loss of eligibility for the community, for certain funding programs.


MBTA Communites

An ADU is typically an additional living area independent of the primary dwelling that may have been added to, created within, or detached from a primary one-unit dwelling. The ADU must provide for living, sleeping, cooking, and bathroom facilities and be on the same parcel as the primary one-unit dwelling.

The home will be sold at an affordable price to households with incomes at or below 80% of the Area Median Income. To be eligible to purchase the home, at least one member of the Household must be 55 years of age or older.

As part of the land development agreement with Greatlands, the Town is interested in pursuing housing development on the eastern parcel of the property for up to 20 units of housing.  A Working Group is to be established to plan for the development of the housing and to establish the steps necessary to move this project to completion.  Funds for this project may come from monies provided for as part of the development agreement with Greatlands, and any other funds the Town may seek to help accomplish this development.
